Description
First of a trio of quick Khorne uploads today. As part of trying out the new Daemonkin codex (which I'll gush about in the Journal) I decided to give the oft-lamented Warp Talons a bash. They benefit quite a bit from the new book.
The models are built basically straight out of the box, except the Champion has a Khorne helm and shoulder pad from the CSM accessory sprue. For all my 'possessed' models I'm going for a theme of big, black horns to match the Bloodletters and the Champion head in the box was way too puny. I think the resulting model looks like he could be a Lord, which is something I always go for with Chaos Champions since they're all megalomaniacs.
Painting these guys is pretty time-consuming since they turn the traditional Chaos armour framing up to 11. I used the usual drybrushed black undercoat, then Mephiston Red highlighted with Evil Sunz Scarlet. The bronze was based with Balthasar Gold and highlighted with Sycorax Bronze, which I'm starting to really like. I'm going for flaming yellow eyes for all the Daemonic models, and I did Khorne runes on their shoulders in a similar fashion, doing a rough outline in Averland Sunset, filling the middle with Yriel Yellow, and then washing the pad with Bloodletter before adding some Scarlet flames for definition. The claws were distressed with Ryza Rust and Typhus Corrosion because for some reason I felt they should look old and nasty, but I liked how it came out. I added a little Blood For The Blood God post-varnish, and also 'Ard-coated the armour.
For some reason glossed models don't seem to photograph all that well. It's probably something I should chat to a proper photographer about.

(Mmmm, pretty cool looking. Like the jaggedness of their armor, their big honking claws, and the ornate trimming and symbols on their armor. Also the one at the top with the stylized skull and Khorne symbol is probably my favorite... because of the stylized skull and Khorne symbol between his horns. Also that 'Eye of Terror' thing in the middle of his chest... he's the Aspiring Champion I take it? Looks the part.)
